This page explains how booking, payment, cancellation, promo codes, and accounts work on LifeRise. It covers our website and our iOS and Android apps. Like our Privacy Policy, we’ve written it to describe what our systems actually do — where something is not yet built, or not yet decided, we say so plainly rather than promising it.
LifeRise is a marketplace connecting residents of managed properties with home service providers. Four groups use it:
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By signing up, you’re confirming that’s true — we don’t currently ask for your date of birth or keep any separate record proving your age, so this is a promise you’re making to us, not something we verify.
Service providers may also be asked for a business description and, optionally, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) — this is never required, only checked for the right format when you choose to provide one.
A resident account works as soon as you sign up. A service provider account starts out “pending” — you can’t accept bookings until a LifeRise admin reviews and approves your application. We’ll notify you either way.
LifeRise can deactivate any account at our discretion — for example, if we believe it’s being used to violate these terms or put someone at risk. Today, that decision is made by a person on our team, not an automated system, and we don’t currently commit to providing a written reason. We’re stating that plainly rather than promising a review process we haven’t built.
When you book a service, it starts as “Pending” until the provider confirms it. Once confirmed, the provider carries out the job, and you mark it “Completed” once the work is done. A provider can decline a pending request instead of confirming it.
You, the provider, or an admin can reschedule a booking to a different time with the same provider, as long as it’s still Pending or Confirmed. There’s no limit today on how many times a booking can be rescheduled.
You can cancel a Pending or Confirmed booking any time before it’s marked completed — there’s no cutoff at the scheduled start time. When you do, whatever you were charged — the service price plus any tip — is refunded automatically and in full. A provider can decline or cancel a Pending booking the same way, with the same automatic full refund to you.
There is currently no minimum-notice window, no late-cancellation fee, and no no-show fee. We’re stating that plainly because a cancellation policy is a common thing to expect, and we don’t want to leave you guessing — today, cancelling costs nothing and there’s no cutoff. We may introduce a cancellation window or fee in the future; if we do, we’ll update this page and the app itself before it takes effect.
If you used a promo code or gift credit on a cancelled booking, it’s restored to your account so you can use it again.
LifeRise may also step in to refund or adjust a booking outside the normal flow — for example, if a provider doesn’t show up, or there’s a quality issue you report to us. A refund can never be more than what was actually charged.
LifeRise uses Stripe to handle all payments. When you book, your card is charged through Stripe’s own secure payment form — your card number, expiration date, and security code go directly to Stripe and never touch LifeRise’s own servers. We only ever see the card’s brand and last four digits, the same information printed on a receipt.
Today, we support cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Stripe Link, and everything runs in US dollars. What you’re charged is held by LifeRise, not paid out to the provider immediately — the provider is paid once you mark the booking completed. LifeRise is not a bank; Stripe is a licensed payment processor, and we’re working through exactly how this holding arrangement should be described from a legal standpoint (see the note at the top of this page).
You may add one tip per booking, right after you pay for it. If the total after a discount or credit would come to less than fifty cents, we round it up to fifty cents — that’s Stripe’s own minimum, not a LifeRise fee.
LifeRise offers a few different kinds of discounts, all issued by LifeRise itself:
Gift credit can expire — but not always. Whether a specific gift credit grant expires, and after how many days, is set by LifeRise when the code is created. Some codes’ credit never expires; others do. We don’t currently show you at the time you receive credit whether that particular grant will expire, so if you’re not sure, spend it or ask us. This is one of the open questions we’re reviewing with a lawyer.
At checkout, any available account credit is applied automatically to reduce what you owe, unless you turn that off for a specific booking — there’s a toggle for this in the app. Credit is only ever spent as part of an actual booking, never on its own, and it is not redeemable for cash or transferable to another account.
A promo code discount or spent gift credit is always funded by LifeRise, never by the provider — the provider is paid the full, undiscounted price of the job either way. LifeRise may revoke a promo code or adjust an account’s credit balance, for example to correct a mistake or address suspected misuse; an adjustment will never take your balance below zero.
LifeRise works with two kinds of providers, and which one applies to your account is something LifeRise assigns, not something you choose at signup:
Either way, if a resident used a promo code or gift credit on your booking, it never reduces what you’re paid — LifeRise covers that difference itself.
As with any account, LifeRise can deactivate a provider account at our discretion; see “Accounts and approval” above.
We ask everyone using LifeRise to:
There is no tolerance for abusive behaviour or objectionable content. Every chat thread has a “Report this conversation” and a “Block this person” option. Blocking stops messages between you both ways, immediately, and you can undo it. Reports are read by our team, who can remove content and suspend or terminate an account. Messages containing slurs or threats are refused outright, and every account is tied to a verified phone number, so nobody here is anonymous.
This is a plain, common-sense list rather than an exhaustive legal policy — we’ll expand it if and when that becomes necessary.
Text messages. The LifeRise Solutions SMS program sends three kinds of messages: a one-time code when you verify your phone number; service and account texts, such as booking confirmations, declines and cancellations (and new-booking alerts for service providers), only if you’ve agreed to them; and promotional messages like discount codes, only if you’ve separately agreed to those. You can agree while verifying your phone number in the app, later on your profile’s Text Messages card, or by texting START. We only send SMS to a verified phone number and only where you’ve given consent. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Agreeing to texts of either kind is never a condition of using LifeRise or of purchasing any service.
Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time — that reply is honored automatically, not just logged for someone to act on later. Reply HELP for help, or START to opt back in. You can also opt out by emailing us at privacy@life-rise.app.
Your phone number and SMS opt-in consent are never shared with, sold to, or transferred to any third party or affiliate for their marketing purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent stay with LifeRise Solutions; the only party that handles them is our SMS delivery provider, acting solely on our behalf to deliver the messages you consented to. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We use email for account, booking, and support notifications. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail on how we handle your contact information.
If something goes wrong with a booking, you can open a support ticket in the app, message back and forth, and attach files. Your ticket is visible to you, to the LifeRise support team, and — if you are a resident of a managed property — to the management team for that property, so they can help resolve it.
If a payment is disputed through your card issuer (a chargeback), that’s handled directly with Stripe and reviewed by our team; it can delay a provider’s payout while it’s open.
We don’t yet have a formal legal dispute-resolution process (like arbitration) written into these terms. If that changes, we’ll describe it here clearly rather than adding it quietly.
You can start deleting your account yourself at any time, in the app or on the web, at Delete your account. If you cannot sign in, email privacy@life-rise.app from the address on your account instead. We confirm the request by email and complete the erasure within 30 days — the erasure itself is carried out by our team rather than instantly and automatically, which is why it can take that long. We cannot begin a deletion while you have a booking still in progress or a payment or payout still settling; the app will tell you exactly what is outstanding. Deletion is permanent — we can’t restore an account afterward — and we keep a limited set of records (like booking and payment history) where the law requires it for tax, accounting, or dispute purposes, even after deletion.
If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Any material change will be communicated clearly rather than treated as something you agreed to just by continuing to use the app.
